Like a lot of my friends I never really knew what I wanted to do for a career when I was growing up. My Mom worked for the local water utility so when I became aware that there was temporary/seasonal job available so I went ahead and applied. I got the job and basically ran a weed whacker and lawn mower all summer. The company did water treatment and distribution as well as wastewater treatment. I decided I didn’t want to mow grass forever so I asked my boss what I needed to do to become a utility operator. He said I needed a State Certification adequate for our systems grade level to get started and make some real money. I wanted to get certified as quickly as possible so I took classes online. Well, now I am certified higher than most of my coworkers and have a retirement pension to look forward too!
